How does inpatient rehab work at Skypoint Recovery?
Skypoint Recovery does not operate an inpatient unit or a residential facility of its own. What we do is make sure you get the care you need, and that you are not on your own when you leave. Through our network of healthcare partners, we connect people with inpatient rehabilitation and medical detox when that is the level of care they need, then provide the outpatient treatment and recovery housing that follow.
We say this plainly because you deserve to know where you will be treated and by whom. Your journey, our commitment: that holds from the first phone call to the day you finish outpatient care.
What are the steps to getting into inpatient care?
Getting into treatment can feel like a maze of phone calls. Our role is to take as much of that off your plate as we can:
- Reach out: Call or send a message to our admissions team. The consultation is free, confidential, and judgment-free.
- Assessment: We look at your substance use, medical history, mental health, safety, and home situation to determine the level of care you need.
- Arranging admission: If inpatient or residential care is right for you, we work with a partner facility on admission and help you understand coverage, timing, and what to bring.
- Coordination during your stay: With your written consent, we stay in contact with the partner team so your discharge plan is ready before you leave.
- Step-down care: When you come home, you continue in Skypoint’s PHP, IOP, or outpatient program, with sober living or transitional housing if you need it.
What about medical detox?
Detox is often the first step for people who have been using alcohol, benzodiazepines, or opioids heavily. Withdrawal from these substances ranges from uncomfortable to medically dangerous, so it should happen under medical supervision.
Skypoint Recovery coordinates medical detox through partner facilities. We help you get admitted, share information with the detox team with your permission, and plan your next step so there is no gap between detox and treatment. That gap is when many people are most vulnerable, and closing it is one of the most important things we do. Please do not try to stop these substances on your own. Call our admissions team first.
Who needs inpatient or residential rehab?
Inpatient and residential programs provide care and supervision around the clock while you live at the facility. That level of support is usually recommended when:
- Withdrawal could be medically dangerous, or you need detox before treatment.
- Substance use is severe or long-standing, and outpatient treatment has not been enough.
- You have returned to use repeatedly and need time away from daily triggers.
- Your home environment is unsafe or makes recovery very difficult right now.
- Serious mental health symptoms need closer monitoring.
Many people do not need inpatient care. If your assessment shows that PHP or IOP can meet your needs safely, we will tell you, and you can often start sooner and stay closer to home.
Does Medicaid cover inpatient rehab in Virginia?
Virginia Medicaid’s addiction treatment benefit includes inpatient and residential levels of care, along with medically supervised withdrawal management, when they are medically necessary. Whether a particular facility accepts your plan varies, so we check coverage with you before admission and help you weigh your options if something is not covered.
What happens after inpatient rehab?
Leaving a residential setting is a big transition. Going straight from round-the-clock support to none at all is hard, so we plan your step-down before you leave. Most people continue in Skypoint’s partial hospitalization program or intensive outpatient program, then outpatient care, with the intensity tapering as confidence grows.
If you need a stable, substance-free place to live when you come home, sober living or transitional housing in Richmond can bridge the gap. Case management can help with practical needs such as benefits, work, and appointments.

Frequently asked questions
Is Skypoint Recovery an inpatient facility?
No. Skypoint Recovery provides outpatient levels of care and recovery housing in Richmond. Inpatient rehab and medical detox are provided by partner facilities, and we arrange admission and coordinate your care from start to finish.
How long is an inpatient stay?
It varies by person and by facility. Length of stay depends on your clinical needs, your progress, and what your insurance authorizes. We help you understand what to expect before you are admitted.
Can I come back to Skypoint after my inpatient stay?
Yes, and we hope you will. Step-down care in our PHP, IOP, and outpatient programs is planned before you are discharged, so you can move from inpatient care to continued treatment without a gap.
Can I call on behalf of a family member?
Yes. Families often make the first call. We can explain the options and what an assessment involves, then talk with your loved one directly, since the decision to enter treatment is theirs to make.
